Remove Linked Calculation and Resource Assignments When Formula Is Removed

Feature Request: Remove Linked Calculation and Resource Assignments When Formula Is Removed

Summary:
Automatically remove the corresponding calculation from the Calculations tab when a user manually removes a formula from the BOE section. If the affected calculation has resources assigned, prompt the user to confirm whether those resource assignments should also be deleted to prevent orphaned or misleading data.

Problem Statement:
Currently, when a user removes a formula from the BOE section, the related calculation in the Calculations tab is not automatically removed. This can leave stale calculations and associated resource assignments in place, creating confusion and potential inconsistencies between what is displayed in the BOE and what is reflected in calculations. Users must manually reconcile these entries, which is error-prone and time-consuming, especially when multiple resources are assigned.

Proposed Solution:

  • When a user manually removes a formula from the BOE section, automatically remove the corresponding calculation from the Calculations tab.

  • Before deleting a calculation that has one or more resources assigned, display a confirmation popup:

    • Clearly indicate that the calculation is linked to resource assignments.

    • Ask the user if they also want to delete the associated resource assignments.

    • Provide clear options:

      • “Delete calculation and resource assignments”

      • “Delete calculation only (keep resource assignments as-is or handle per system rules)”

      • “Cancel”

  • Similarly, when a user deletes a calculation directly from the Calculations tab that has resources assigned, display the same confirmation popup and options.

  • Ensure that any deletion action keeps data integrity intact—no orphaned references, no invisible but still-active assignments.

  • Log or track these changes (where appropriate) so users can audit what was deleted and why.

Benefits:

  • Maintains consistency between the BOE section and the Calculations tab, reducing confusion for users.

  • Prevents stale or orphaned resource assignments that could distort reporting, costing, or planning.

  • Reduces manual cleanup work by automating the removal of dependent calculations when formulas are removed.

  • Lowers the risk of user errors by providing explicit confirmation and clear options when resources are involved.

  • Improves overall user trust in the system’s data accuracy and alignment across related views.
